“I can do this by myself. I don’t need anyone’s help.”
“I am the only one holding this family together. Everyone depends on me.”
“I’m a research fanatic.”
“I spend too much time in the details looking stuff up online.”
Three perspectives of a Spirit of Humanism that report to a strongman of Anti-Christ are represented in these statements: independence, playing the role of the Holy Spirit, and intellectualism. All three sabotage you.
Three Perspectives of Humanism Sabotaging You
- Independence – How many of you were raised hearing, “You need to be educated and independent. Don’t rely on a man. Learn to do everything for yourself.” The women’s movement liberated women from many bondages but, the enemy kept pushing until a Proverbs 31 woman was viewed as weak. Unraveling this ungodly independence can take years but not if you understand the Spirit of Humanism at its root. When praying for women in their 30’s and 40’s I stand in the gap as a mother who taught an erroneous worldly view and them to forgive me. Once that Anti-Christ Spirit of Humanism is cast out, marriages improve with the revelation of true freedom.
- Playing the Holy Spirit role – This situation arises when one family member takes the spiritual lead and then feels responsible for carrying the whole family. Humanism brings ungodly burdens of false responsibility to weigh you down with weariness. You feel alone. You may be the only believer in your family, and your prayers are strategic, but the Word tells us His yoke is easy and His burdens are light. Your role in prayer is to bring the family to the feet of Jesus and leave them there. Cast your cares on the one who sees everything, and he will guide you in perfect peace far away from a Spirit of Humanism. Your family will see the fruit of the Holy Spirit operating in you and be more likely to follow. A resentful martyr will not attract their attention.
- The analytical mind that loves to research – We live in a world filled with suspicion, distrust, and conspiracy theories. We don’t want to be duped by false advertising, inflated reviews, or not getting the best price, so we research everything to death. A spirit of Humanism causes suspicion. One of my clients told me that her phone lets her track her boyfriend. When he was late getting home, she looked up his location and found the person who lived there on Facebook. Spirits of doubt and suspicion took over and made her look crazy. Charles Spurgeon once said, “Doubt discovers difficulties you can never solve.” Spirits of Humanism tempt you down the wrong road. Please don’t go with them!
All three views of humanism sabotage your walk with God. They all place the burden on you to figure everything out. God will never leave you or abandon you, but Humanism will entice you to step away and lean on your own understanding.
If you sense spirits of Humanism are sabotaging your forward progress, you may need help to move forward, and I urge you to seek it out.
