Spiritual Warfare And Deliverance Ministry
The terms “spiritual warfare” and “deliverance ministry” are bandied about frequently in the church. One in particular can evoke strong emotions and the divergence in views and understanding is as broad as the Red Sea!
What follows is my perception of the linkage between the two. The best definition of spiritual warfare is given by Paul in Ephesians 6:12 – “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (NIV). Counseling For Depression: Client Assessment
In my years as a Christian counselor, I have seen many clients who are battling depression. During the first session, I assess, as a minimum, the following points:
- What is the client’s physical state? Do they exercise? Are they overweight? Studies have shown that there is a link between physical well-being and depression. While chronic depression can lead a person to neglect their bodies, this aspect is a consideration when trying to determine how best to help someone. As a full time Christian counselor, I hear lots of perspectives from people on how they view God, His character and motives. What follows is a list of the most common misconceptions people have voiced to me when they come in for counseling. Some of you might read this and view one or more of these as truths and not wrong thinking at all, but that’s what makes this list interesting!
Your World View: Kingdom Of God Or Kingdom Of This World?
In the course of counseling our clients, we have seen how their view of the “real” world compared to the biblical view is a key part of helping them with their spiritual growth, deliverance and healing.
Chuck Colson defined worldview as “the sum total of our beliefs about the world.” Do they see it from God’s perspective which focuses on insights and revelation from the bible? Or, do they have more faith in “facts” gleaned from the secular 24-hour news standpoint. In many cases, like a restaurant buffet line, they feel free to mix and match to suit their tastes.
