How do you know when demons leave a person? Over the course of the past few weeks, I have had several clients ask, with no small measure of fear in their voice, how the demons are going to leave and how I, when ministering deliverance, will know that they are gone?
I’ve been at this long enough to know that such “coincidences” typically are nudges from the Lord to take action of some kind so this post is hopefully a beneficial result!
This article focuses on how we, as deliverance ministers typically assess that demons have left a person during the course of the (two-hour) ministry process. It is a discernment that we try to make; sometimes it is obvious and sometimes it is not so evident.
It is important to clarify that this is not a discussion of how demons manifest in general; that is for another time. The reality is that many have seen demonic manifestations and may not have been Many people have seen these manifestations in their loved ones or in a church/ministry session or in the worst case scenario a true-to-life Hollywood movie designed to scare the wits out of them.
Demon Spirits Leave In Different Ways
Here’s our list of the most common demonic manifestations we see when they leave:
- Physical movement (hands, legs), then release
- Physical pain, then release
- Yelling / screaming, then release
- Coughing / Burping, then release
- Yawning / sneezing
- Eye twitching/narrowing, then release
- Facial contortions, then release
- Breathing out
- Quietly – no manifestation
- Extremes – vomiting / diarrhea
- The person will tell us!
This list is not complete but represents the preponderance of manifestations over the course of twenty plus years of ministry ministering to thousands of people one on one and in group seminars. Our approach to deliverance is based upon a five step process that does not involve the calling out of spirits until the fourth session. By that time, the willing and active participant has heard the preparatory teachings , done the homework we have assigned them, stirred up their faith and come in to our office (or over the internet) with expectancy!
For these reasons, most of the manifestations we see are represented above. We do not yell at people or wrestle with them and do not allow demons to manifest in a loud or physically painful way. If this type of manifestation persists, it is typically because there is still an open door for torment in the person and we seek to identify the source of that so it can be closed before proceeding.

I was speaking in tongues alone at my home. When I had remembrance of past lives and repented in tears and groaning to the lord and then three demons came out of me. One was hate, one was slayer and was machination of the three hate was the darkest, then slayer (to kill in battle) and then machination (scheming evil). I made a wild beast sound for each of the three and felt the evil (beast) as it left me. I was able to understand the difference between demons and unclean spirits (such as addictions and worries). I still have the unclean spirits around as I work through purification. Please don’t confuse demons and unclean spirits. Demons can possess and unclean spirit don’t possess, what they do is keep one from their Christ self through the addiction and worry. Demons cause people to break the moral code (ten commandments) and can result in violence to one’s self or other. Now I’m in the temptation part and the unclean spirits are getting weaker as my fears and addictions begin to fade into oblivion. Next is the miracles and healing phases using the peace that only Christ in us has. It’s a step by step and not the easiest to be patience for. I thought I was ready to be a christian healer. I am, however now I understand the road to get their. God Bless.
Hello! I am hoping you can provide me with some clarity. I have been a spiritual person, and believe in God and Jesus Christ, for many years and many miracles have happened in that time – all positive. After almost a year of feeling hopeless and thinking about suicide, I asked a old boyfriend who died 9 years ago and who loved me very much, to help me and to send me a sign (I had never asked him before). I received many, the first being a single white feather. After I saw that feather I no longer felt hopeless and the thoughts of suicide left me and to date have not returned. After 5 or 6 signs I had an experience while driving. I had asked for another sign and I looked up and there was a lone cloud – not very big – and all other clouds were far in the distance. As soon as I looked up I saw the face of Jesus (I have not been trying to contact Jesus directly). It was unmistakable, very precise unlike the ‘Jesus in the clouds’ images I looked at on Google Images. The whole time I was looking at Him I was saying out loud “You are really seeing this”. I saw him for appx. 3 or 4 consecutive seconds. I passed under a tree that blocked the image and when I got on the other side of it I looked up and I now saw a skull. It was a very basic skull – I looked away. None of the ‘signs’ I had been receiving scared me. Yesterday morning after being awake for appx 15 minutes, I had almost finished my 2nd cup of coffee. As is my routine I was looking out the window and sat in silence simply ‘being’. I had my hand to my mouth biting on my thumb nail. I moved my hand and (this is extremely hard, if not impossible to describe) this ‘cloud’ of what I will call ‘smoke’ came out of my mouth. It was not your typical ‘smoke’, it was like tiny gray and silver particles, almost shiny but not quite. I did not appear directly in my face but exited like cigarette smoke but the distance it stopped, and then completely dissipated was appx. 2 feet from my mouth. It freaked me out. The best way to describe is like what I have seen in movies when a demon is leaving a person’s body. I was left with a funny taste in my mouth, not quite bitter but definitely not pleasant. It remained a couple minutes and then that completely went away as well. I have been searching all over the internet for documentation or someone that has had a similar experience and have not found anything. Yesterday I shared this experience with 2 good friends who are very spiritual (both religious). They know me very well and know that I would not make something like this up. One suggested that perhaps it was a sign that I was sick (I feel fine) and the other said it was part of my spiritual journey. I am at a loss and am searching for it’s meaning. Hi Mary, thank you for your post. You did have a spiritual encounter but you need to recognize that God can speak/manifest to us and so can demons! Seeking a sign from your old boyfriend opens the door for demons to respond because the bible is clear that the dead cannot communicate with us on earth. The demonic realm comes often as a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing, that is, looking very much like an answer from God. I don’t believe you received deliverance; what you experienced in the car was a demonic manifestation and they are trying to get you seek after a “spiritual” answer. Seek Jesus alone for your spiritual truths.
My son is 16 year’s old and we are Christians bit he decided to go a different path and became possessed by demons he’s hearing voices and seeing things was in a psych hospital for 21 days and they diagnosed him with psychosis and possible schizophrenia traits and is on 3 different psych meds I tried to pray with him and tell him God is the only way he refused God Idk if is part of a rebellion age or what but recently in this past week he decided to come back to the Lord my brother prayed with him a deliverance prayer to cast out any demons within him he is now throwing up non stop for about an hr now and has had diarrhea and sweating I’m praying for him for full deliverance and that he will recover soon any prayers or information will help I’m still walking in baby steps myself learning and need the holy spirits guidance in all I do
