How Can Good People Do Evil Things?

The bible teaches that man is indeed beautiful. That is, he is created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26) and we would all understand and believe that God is good and there is no evil in Him. We know that God in His wisdom gave us a free will so that we might make choices and decisions in life.

The struggle for many Christians, as they look around them in the world and often in their own families, churches and workplaces, is trying to understand how a “good” Christian, with the Spirit of God in them, can continue to walk in darkness, sin and bondages. Is it a lack of faith? Is it willful disobedience? Is it God’s punishment for bad choices made before? Is it… (Fill in whatever else you may have heard)?

Some time back I had a client who found our ministry and had a serious situation he was facing. He had been arrested by legal authorities for molesting a child family member and was severely tormented with guilt and shame and now fear of what lay ahead. As I learned his history during our time together, it was clear that he had been used mightily by God in ministry and the drive to perversion had tormented him for years.

He used words we frequently hear from clients: “It’s not me, it’s something in me”, and “I have prayed and cried out to God for help for years” and more. He was a very sweet-spirited man who loved the Lord, who was saved; who was used wonderfully in ministry, but still had this darkness in him.

Deliverance Ministry: Driving Out Evil Spirits

We ministered to him and saw God move powerfully to deliver him from many spirits, including perversion. The session was one of the more “vocal” that I have been involved in; the man was in intense pain for part of it and groaned significantly as the demons left him. He was a “good man” (created in the image of God as we all are) but had evil in him that drove him and tormented him.

It was wonderful to see God set him free, and as the legal system took its course, to see God still bring good out of what the enemy intended for evil. I pray that the young person involved is able to secure healing and victory also.

Bad things happen to good people. Similarly, good people can have evil in them and deliverance ministry can help them get back on the road that leads to life!
