For many in the world, indeed for many Christians(!), it is a preposterous notion that demons cause sickness. The fact is that the bible explicitly points this out!
Luke 13:11-13. On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
Why do so many in the church resist the notion that people might need deliverance from demonic spirits to secure and maintain their healing? What is even more interesting is that this woman was a believer! A few verses later in this passage, Jesus says this to his opponents:
Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
Demons Bring Sickness; Jesus Brings Healing
This woman was more than just any Jewish woman! She was in the synagogue when Jesus came upon her and she was a daughter of Abraham. That meant she was a “religious” person, a believer, if you like, of the Abrahamic covenant. Her righteousness before God even then, like Abraham and Christians today, was by faith (Gen 15:6)!
The church of Jesus should be about the works of Jesus, all the works, including preaching, healing and delivering people from demonic torment! Why do most churches stop at preaching, some go on to pray and minister in healing but precious few do deliverance ministry? Praise God for doctors and the medical profession and the way the Lord uses them. Sadly, however, many people are not healed because they need deliverance from demonic oppression and torment and this gift the church needs to bring to the lost and dying as Christ intended!
