How do you know if someone might need deliverance? We believe that every Christian should receive deliverance ministry periodically, that each of us can benefit from getting the temple cleansed from unwanted guests.
That is the stock answer we give to people who contact us about our services and seminars and wonder if they are a candidate. At Above & Beyond, we make it a point to receive deliverance ministry periodically to be tuned up so that we might walk and warfare more effectively!
Apart from the very general answer that deliverance can benefit everyone, there are some very specific indicators, or evidences, that a person might benefit from deliverance ministry. We have ministered to thousands of people and during the course of the session one interview almost invariably one or more of the following surface. These are not proofs that a person has a demon but rather telltale indications that person would very probably benefit.
If you are considering this for yourself, or a loved one for that matter, ask the following:
- Are there behaviors/”issues” that you know are wrong but that you cannot get the victory over?
- Have you had repeated prayer/ministry/counsel and not seen much in the way of lasting victory?
- Do you sometimes sense that the problem isn’t you, but rather something in you?
- Are you having “spiritual” encounters, including recurring dreams/nightmares that you leave you fearful?
- Feeling defeated or angry (at God, the church, yourself) that you are not seeing progress in some area of your life that you have put before the Lord?
Any one of these is a potential indicator but collectively they indicate very real fruit from one or more demonic strongholds. Christians can and do benefit from bible meditation, study, prayer, fasting, godly counsel and help from a myriad of sources. The reality is that believers can be tormented and oppressed by demonic spirit that they need deliverance from. Jesus did deliverance, he trained the disciples to do it and he put that same call on the church in Mark 16:17.
Isn’t He the same yesterday, today and forever?
Many in the church discount the ministry of deliverance totally and certainly contend that believers do not need deliverance because they can’t have demons. Previous posts address this issue but the reality is that believers can benefit from deliverance and it is our ministry’s prayer and focus to help others see this truth so that the Body of Christ can be free and not in bondage to demonic torment.
A precursor for receiving ministry in this area is that a person is at least open to learn and listen to teaching in this area. Our hope is that articles like this, and many others written by other deliverance ministries, will help build awareness.
