This is the first blog in a series where I will be sharing (purely from my experience in deliverance/ counseling sessions) what I have found to be common generational spiritual torments common in women from specific ethnic cultures. I did an introductory article previously to further explain this series. This first article looks at generational curses common to the Latin/Hispanic Culture.
My initial exposure to this came a few years back when two Puerto Rican women, complete strangers, came in for counseling. Their stories were so similar that I had a difficult time keeping them straight. Both had childhoods filled with broken homes, poverty molestation, and divination. Both were separated, struggling, single parents whose husbands had filed for divorce and returned to Puerto Rico. I have since heard similar testimonies of abandonment and abuse from many Latinas who have sought deliverance.
It is a sad reality that a staggering percentage of these women I have met with have suffered childhood abuse, rape and molestation that also continued into their adult lives. In many cases the parents brought their abused children to a Santeria practitioner for help but this opened the door to even more torment.
There are demonic spirits at work to carry out generational curses and here are the most common I have seen operating in Latinas: Broken Commitments, Emotional and Physical abuse, Molestation, Poverty, Fear, Occult, Matriarchal Dominance and Generational Pride.
These curses are manifested in people’s lives in different ways and this is the typical fruit: divorce, bitterness, fear from trauma and abuse, depression, confusion, and weariness.
What are the prevailing reasons behind this type of history? Generalizations can be misleading but we have seen absentee fathers/husbands as a significant issue. If the male head of the house leaves the family is left feeling bitter, frustrated, weary, abandoned, and struggling with poverty issues. The lives of the women did not represent the traditional heritage they were promised and they were left vulnerable to abuse.
Why have so many Latin men left their families? My understanding is that many left as immigrants or refugees to come to the United States to escape poverty and ostensibly provide their families with greater financial security. The women who were left behind, who had been trained to be submissive to the husband, were now left alone to raise their children and take on all the family responsibilities. They became the matriarchs, often controlling out of fear, and bitter about being abandoned.
Hispanic families able to reunite in the U.S. often faced different spiritual tormentors. We have seen many cases when the husband’s mother, back in the homeland, has been praying “witchcraft” prayers so that the son will return home and they end up leaving. The women who came here quickly adapted and found better employment. Broken commitments to traditions brought in spirits of anxiety and guilt, lack of respect in the children, and conflict in the marriage. Male dominated Hispanic pride suffered, and for some men adultery fed their suffering egos.
We understand that the points above are not universally applicable but we have seen them often as a recurring pattern. When we can shed light on the roots generational curses the demonic kingdom is exposed and expelled from causing torment in the sons and daughters of the King.
