Do you expect rejection when you walk into a room full of people?
Do you expect depression to greet you when you wake up?
Do you expect anxiety when you face the unknown?
Warning! What you expect is the focus of your faith, and it might be manipulated by a spirit of dread.
Sobering isn’t it? Your confident expectation is focused on a demon!
Don’t feel bad. I “expected” people not to listen to me and just walk away. My expectation got me just what I feared the most. I got so used to it, so I stopped talking.
My expectation allowed the demons to sabotage God’s greatest gift in me and I brought them with me into every conversation. That revelation changed my hope, and people started listening to me.
It’s funny to think about it now because people ask me to talk, teach, and write. That demon of dread was assigned to abort my purpose.
A spirit of dread forms a lie based belief system that is reinforced by facts. However, the events of your circumstance are not the truth of God’s plan for your life.
I remember my wide-eyed confidence when I first woke up to the promises of God. It was hard for the people around me to understand what I could see by faith for my future. In fact, my daughter, Megan told me recently that it was hard for her to see what my faith could in the beginning. However, when my faith birthed facts, and it became a reality she told me, “I can no longer deny God’s plan for your life.”
God is not undermined by the facts, it’s your agreement that will limit Him.
Abraham Expected the Promise
I love how The Passion Translation paints the picture of Abrahams faith in God’s promises:
Against all odds, when it looked hopeless, Abraham believed the promise and expected God to fulfill it. Romans 4:18
Abraham believed because he did not rely on the facts.
In spite of being nearly one hundred years old when the promise of having a son was made, his faith was so strong that it could not be undermined by the fact that he and Sarah[m] were incapable of conceiving a child. Romans 4:19
What are the promises and gifts God has given you? What expectations do you have that are limiting God and allowing demonic torment?
A Dreadful Expectation Sabotages Your Purpose
Perhaps you have a gift of encouragement that a demon of dread has sabotaged with depression.
Or a gift of healing that is now hidden under the expected screams of a spirit of infirmity.
Or a leadership gift that expects and collapses with fear when given the opportunity to lead.
Your gifting and purpose are essential to the Body of Christ. It’s not about you, but it begins with you. You get what you expect, and if demons are driving your expectations, it’s time to stop allowing them access.
If you are ready to change your focus, give us a call. With God all things are possible!
