What are demons like, what is their nature? Demons are evil of course; we know that and that they come to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10)! There are many scriptures about demons two scriptures in particular that gives us great insight.
Luke 11:24-26 says this: “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ 25When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. 26. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.”(NIV).
Matt 12:43-45 says this: “When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Demons Are Created Beings
Isn’t it interesting that the same scripture is in there twice in the bible? We see that with others of course and apart from what the theologians might tell us, I am of the opinion that anything that God decided to put in there two times is probably pretty significant! Read the scriptures carefully! If you do, you will see that demons come out of a man (deliverance), that they get tired (they need rest), they have a mind and can reason (“I will return…”) and that some spirits are more wicked than others!
So many counselees we meet with have heard of these scriptures but almost invariably misquote it! They will say that the person is seven times worse than they were before! That is not what the Scripture says…rather that the one spirit brings along seven others more wicked than itself! Quite a lot of revelation in one little scripture!
