As a Christian counselor and as someone who is very active in deliverance ministry, I have read of a lot of materials and resources that speak about spiritual warfare. I have learned a lot over the years from others who have gone before. Sometimes discussions and teachings can seem murky or unclear and we purpose to lay out the straight talk.
Ministries like Warfare Plus Ministries, Ellel Ministries, Frank & Ida Mae Hammond, Henry Wright and many others have been important in my own understanding of the demonic realm. As our own ministry moves ahead, I hope that others will build upon the foundation and framework that we have laid down just as we have done and continue to do.
A point of interest to me is how little understanding most people have of the demonic realm. The reason for that is relatively simple, I believe, and it is because the church has not taught them! Most people form their understanding of demons, if they have any at all, from books they’ve read or Hollywood movies they have seen. There is therefore a great deal of misinformation and fear associated with the whole spiritual warfare realm and it is a cause of great concern to me as a minster and counselor.
The church needs to teach more about the demonic realm; not so we are “devil-focused” but so we are aware. James… says to submit to God and resist the devil so he will flee. My question is how can people fight what they cannot see?
Most people have very little discernment when it comes to resisting the devil, beginning with the reality that they are resisting demon spirits, not THE devil (or satan) himself! Then, the scriptures tell us that demons can think, have a will, communicate, have emotions and that there is a hierarchy of wickedness! We’ll talk more about this in other posts.
