Medical experts tell us that excessive fear, worry or anxiety in a person’s life can trigger or worsen certain sicknesses of diseases.
Are you aware that many sicknesses and diseases have a spiritual root, where the demonic spirits of fear (and others) enters to try to kill and destroy us?
Because there is limited teaching in the Body of Christ on the details of spiritual warfare and demon activity, many people are perishing because of lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).
Man is a triune being with a spirit, soul and body. At salvation, with a new spirit and indwelling Holy Spirit, there is provision to walk in divine health. By the stripes of Jesus, the bible says, we were healed. There is a close linkage between the three parts
Sometimes that healing comes through doctors, medicines and laying of hands. However, sometimes the healing manifests when the demonic spirit behind the sickness leaves. Deliverance of spirits resident in the soul is well known and accepted; this brings freedom from anger, depression, fear, addictions, lusts and more. Deliverance of body spirits (or spirits that manifest sickness in the physical body) is also an important area of ministry.
Jesus delivered a woman from a spirit of infirmity that had crippled her (Luke 13:11). He also rebuked a fever (Luke 4:29). He commanded the spirit behind that affliction to come out of a person, and it did. In each case, when the spirits came out, physical healing manifested.
A cursory review of WebMD and other websites reveals a number of afflictions linked to stress. Common diagnoses include Crohn’s disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), migraine headaches to name only a few.
Most people view stress as an internal condition (“I’m feeling stressed!”) when, from a spiritual standpoint, stress comes from the outside. Fear, in some form, is our reaction to it!
In other words, life is stressful because outside events and deadlines do impact our daily lives and schedules. Stress does happen, but it does not have to result in fear rising up in us. There are a lot of biblical passages that focus on living and walking in faith and not fear! As Christians, we can appropriate every victory of Christ on the cross, and that includes living and walking out a life free from fear.
Sometimes we experience the emotion of fear, and when we take thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ and His word, that emotion is quelled and peace returns. However, if we cannot get sustained victory in this area, then we should explore the likelihood that one or more spirits of fear are tormenting us.
How do spirits of fear manifest? There are different spirits under the strongman of Fear, including Worry, Anxiety, Insecurity, Nervousness, and Abandonment as a partial list. God’s not given us a spirit of fear (but of power, love and a sound mind (xxx)), but many times they are resident in us because of open doors!
Spirits are like cockroaches, and they will seek to invite in others, including depression, rejection, anger, addictions and even infirmity spirits.
Fear Opens The Door For Spirits of Infirmity
Many diagnoses include the words “syndrome” or “disorder”. In these cases, a collection of symptoms is given a name, and treatment regimen prescribed if available. There are no known cures, and I contend that the majority of those involve demonic strongholds at the root that are manifesting in physical sickness.
I encourage you to pick up a copy of Henry Wright’s excellent book, “A More Excellent Way,” which contains interesting and valuable insight on the spiritual roots of many sicknesses and diseases.
In conclusion, when we are sick, sometimes we need only healing to return to wholeness. If there are demonic spirits behind the affliction, then we need deliverance before the healing can come. If we have one or more spirits of fear operating, they too must go, and we must keep the doors closed when they try to return to the house.
Have you been diagnosed with a disease or disorder where you know that your internal state of peace can help lessen the impact? If so, I would urge you to do some research and seek out a pastor, Christian counselor or deliverance minister who understands the biblical linkages between body, soul and spirit. They also should be conversant in how the demonic realm operates so they can help you gain victory and healing.
