If we believe God has promised 120 years of life, then I am a little over half way through.
The majority of the first half of my life I was raised in a culture and church that didn’t acknowledge the presence of demons.
I went so far as to teach classes that suggested the reoccurring behaviors and negative decisions were due to character defects that could be changed with prayer and bible study.
It was a frustration for me that there were things that didn’t change and to me the church had nothing to offer to the most tormented. It seemed we avoided those that were dysfunctional and we tried to keep our own dysfunctions hidden.
There was a church in town that had a deliverance minister but everyone knew they were extreme and flaky. And most of all, in my circle of church and friends it was not socially acceptable to even glance in that direction. My life fell apart and as my children grew up I watched them have to deal with many of the same behaviors and attitudes I had come to hate in myself.
I think the last round for me Satan intended to be the one with no recovery.
But the Lord, in this season, opened doors to teaching and opportunities for freedom. Phyllis Tarbox at Above & Beyond, somehow showed up as a Facebook friend and through her posts the Holy Spirit revealed hope to me.
Since going through the deliverance with her, I now have room for more of the Holy Spirit, room to breathe, and can “hear” without filters or doubt. One of the most dramatic areas for me is freedom from the spirit of poverty. My bloodline had had a curse of poverty.
