As a deliverance counselor, one of the questions I am frequently asked is, “What if I can’t remember all the details of my childhood or I leave something out that is crucial to my deliverance?”
I think it’s important to realize that we have a very balanced process that gives the Holy Spirit room to move in a person’s life. Your deliverance is not based on your memory, intellect, or ability; it’s based on the HIS.
I can usually pick out the clients that come in with this concern. They have spent most of their lives analyzing details and relying on their own strength to get them through. To help them understand I share a particular deliverance that I found quite interesting.
A few years back a client was sent over to us from a ministry partner. She had been through all the teachings, and was coming in for her interview and deliverance sessions in the same day. As I prepared in prayer, I heard the Holy Spirit begin to give me the details of this woman’s life. He had me write down these key words: villainous, murderous, adultery, divorce, abortions, hiding, drugs and crime.
When this petite prim and proper woman in her mid fifties arrived, I thought, “Boy my hearing must be off today!” Then she began to disclose in her previous life she had been one of the biggest drug dealers for a well known motorcycle gang. She was raised to be a “villain” by her family who was Chicago gang-style bad in every sense of the word. Every word that the Holy Spirit had given to me was right on track.
As we were ministering, her deliverance took an unusual turn. In the middle of her session I began hearing, “Ask her about her horse.” Finally when I could ask, she replied, “Oh my, I never thought to bring that up. The face you are looking at is not mine. It is a total reconstruction from many surgeries after I was thrown off my horse at the age of fifteen!” Equal to her own sinful acts, this event was crucial to her deliverance.
After we went through the fear of that event, again, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Ask her about her other horse because it is associated with pride.” So once again, I stopped and asked,” What is your other horse and what does it have to do with pride? Her eyes got wide and she said, “That was my beloved motorcycle, it took the place of a real horse in my life. I named it the Pride of Passion.”
There was a spirit of pride bound up in her gang activities, based on not getting caught. Her story is one that could easily be shown on the History channel and published in a book. But this chapter I wanted to share. It reveals just how interested the Holy Spirit is in the details. He knows exactly what you need to be delivered from and he will go after it because deliverance makes room for the fruit of the Holy Spirit to grow.
