Christians seek out many sources when they need help dealing with life situations. Avenues of exploration include asking friends, meeting with the pastor, ingesting medications to ease emotional pain to name just a few.
Some will opt for professional counseling help. The road to victory can be painful, tedious and seemingly without lasting success.
Various treatment methodologies can be ineffective for many reasons, but motivation and desire is fundamental!
What if you have fervently pursued every available option? You have prayed diligently, fasted, attended prayer meetings and worship conferences and received hands-on prayer and ministry at every opportunity and still not secured freedom.
Is God mad at you? Is it your lot in life to be in spiritual bondage?
The answer is to both questions is: “No”! Jesus came to set you free and bring complete mental, emotional and physical healing (John 10:10).
If you believe that, then what else is there to try?
Have you considered deliverance ministry?
Many treatments out there treat the symptoms but rarely get to the root. Freedom is temporary at best and, like a weed that only has the leaves trimmed, the turmoil usually returns, sometimes with greater fervor!
Psychotropic medications, prescribed to help people cope with depression, anger, and other mental or emotional disorders, are band-aids at best and few are happy with the results. At best, the recipient is able to function at a sub-par level and there are side-effects to deal with.
Solid biblical counseling from qualified practitioners (lay or professional) can be extremely helpful to the recipient. When Jesus walked the earth, his ministry included counseling, teaching, healing and driving out demons.
eliverance ministry is defined as “the driving out of demons”.
Some contend that deliverance ministry is not for today and certainly is not something Holy Spirit-filled Christians require.
We beg to differ. Deliverance ministries over the ages and all over the world have set God’s people free from demonic spirits and it continues now!
Jesus Did Not Counsel Demons Out Of People
We are NCCA-Licensed Christian Counselors and love to bring God’s word to bear on our clients life situations. However, we have determined that you cannot counsel demons out of people. Jesus cast them out and He told his church to do the same that it would be one of the signs to follow believers (Mark 16:17).
Many people receive competent Christian counseling for years but cannot get the victory because the demons are still there! There are not demons behind every problem but until the spirit leaves, victory will be elusive!
One of my clients, during the initial interview session, asked if I had a six month program for him. I was shocked by his question. He had been in counseling for years and was now taking me for a test drive, I suspect. He was prepared to be in it for the long haul and was surprised by my answer. We do not want people dependent upon us, rather that they be totally connected with Jesus and part of a Spirit-filled, bible-believing, Word-preaching church.
God sovereignly delivers his people but, as with healing, he also uses the Body of Christ to fulfill the Great Commission in this area. We liken it to having a splinter in your leg: the leg will not heal until the splinter is removed and so it is with demonic torment.
We have found that ministering deliverance to an individual can be effective if three conditions are met:
- The person must be born-again. This will help prepare them to stay free when the demon spirits seek to return to the house after the ministry session. (Matthew 12:43-45)
- They must want it and should be desparate for Jesus to help them. Jesus did not heal or deliver every person, however there is not an instance recorded where He did not heal or drive out the demons when the person came to him.
- Prepare and do the homework (pre and post-session). We utilize a five-session deliverance ministry process and have found this to be more advantageous than simply calling out spirits at the altar.
