The word “deliverance” can stir up some pretty graphic pictures for some of us; however, a spa day was a new one for me! I recently had a client compare her deliverance session to just that, a spa day with the Lord.
I know for many of us girls, that a day at the spa is a rare treat that occasionally comes in the form of gift cards on special occasions. Those gifts instantly produce the “ahh” sound of relaxation as we express our gratitude toward the giver! So in comparing deliverance to a spa day, I need some time to explain!
Countless times this past year I have seen the Holy Spirit just lavish his love on my clients. They come in lost, rejected, and beaten up with weariness and leave glowing with new life and freshness. Their deliverance day removed demonic oppression and allowed the refreshing of the Holy Spirit to wash over them.
One client came in physically slumped over with depression and rejection for her deliverance session. Her story began as an illegitimate child who was hidden by her mother, rejected by her family, and shamed most of her life by her adulterous husband. In fact her husband had told her he never really loved her, he had married her out of obligation. She felt like an outcast in almost every group she tried to join.
So grievous was her story that her deliverance session was saturated with an abundance of prophetic words of love from God. As we prayed the blessing over her at the end, the Lord showed me a picture of a wedding invitation that was emblazed with gold embossing. It was an invitation inscribed with name on it! He was asking her to be his betrothed and walk down the aisle to be the bride of Christ!
So vivid was that picture that I felt led to get her that invite to hold on to as a memory of the day on her final session!
Over and over this year the Holy Spirit has been taking the old names off and writing “Beloved” over those that have come in for deliverance. They have sat in the pool of his refreshing, been revived with the wind of His spirit and walked away with a new name!
The one phrase that I keep hearing from my clients lately is, “I never really knew who I was until now! I bought the lies of the enemy so completely; but no more!”
So, yes, this year deliverance has turned into a Spa Day with the Lord for many. The groom is coming back for his beloved. He wants us to know who we are, how much we are loved, and that he is waiting. I don’t know about you, but I would trade the actual spa for the Holy Spirit Spa any day!
Are you ready to exchange the drab dress of heaviness with the stains of last year’s guilt and shame for a garment of praise (Isaiah 61:3)? Perhaps there is a wedding invitation waiting for you. Do you think it may be time to look at deliverance from a different perspective!
