Is your testimony so messy you don’t tell people you are a Christian?
Do you do things you regret, but you do them anyway?
Are you becoming the parent you said you would never be?
Generational sin or iniquity is the largest open door the demonic kingdom uses to destroy the testimony of a Christian. As believers, we have the blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony, and that we love our life, not unto death. (Rev 12:11)
We know from Rev. 12:12 that the devil fell to earth with fury and with little time. He is here to recruit souls for his kingdom. He can’t have our souls because the blood of the lamb is incorruptible.
So what does the devil go after? Our testimony!
He makes it look so messy we are embarrassed to share the gospel or even acknowledge that we are believers.
I walked to church alone at the age of 5 along a street named Pentecost. I was saved at 14 but backslid so far that I would not even put a Christian bumper sticker on my car because I had road rage!
4 Ways Generational Sin Destroy Your Testimony
- It scatters you in different directions. It leaves parts of you behind trapped in cages of trauma, fear, anger, molestation, bitterness, perversions, depression and more.
- Your freedom is stolen. When you walk in the sin of your forefathers, you enter their bondage. Your actions may look very different from your fathers, but that same spirit is working you. I often mention the father who gambled away the family savings and landed in debt. The son did not gamble, but that spirit of debt rooted in poverty held him captive. The cards he shuffled were credit cards.
- It leads you away from God’s best. God’s plan is to prosper you, sin keeps you limited and gives access to the enemy to kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10). Any time you choose to sin, you are subject to a curse. It’s like giving the devil his personal ATM card to your checking account!
- It hinders your intimacy with God. The farther we wander, the more off track we get. We begin to rationalize and justify our sin as “not that bad.”
The demonic kingdom is not that creative because the torment it’s been using to infiltrate your family has been keeping it bound for generations!
Declaration to Break the Power of Generational Sin
In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent for the sin of (list) and I confess and forgive the sins of my forefathers. I break the power of every inherited curse on my bloodline, specifically (list) I also break any unknown curses, even those I have spoken over myself. I cancel the assignment of every spirit upon me from a generational curse and declare that you have no hold over me, in Jesus name. Amen.
All curses were nailed to the cross with Jesus, his blood was enough. There is power in the blood of Jesus, but it’s not automatic, it takes repentance for sin. We must appropriate our freedom just as we did our salvation.
Removing the spirits that have gained access to your soul through generational sin, however, is more challenging. If you have repented but repeatedly find yourself in the same mess, Christian counseling with an emphasis on deliverance will help you.
God knows the plans he has for you, plans for peace and not evil, to give you hope for your future and your children’s future.
