Do you feel hopeless, helpless or worthless? Are you constantly trying to do right, but still end up doing wrong? Are you tired of life? Does the guilt, shame and condemnation keep you from being prosperous and productive?
I have encountered many who struggle with emotional and spiritual pain. They appear healthy on the outside but in reality, they are like a “boiling volcano.” They have either hurt someone or have been injured, and since they haven’t forgiven that person, they carry resentment which opens the door to guilt, shame and condemnation.
Let me share from my past experience as as a nurse in the psychiatric unit of a major metropolitan hospital. I encountered many patients who injured themselves by cutting, burning or intensely scratching themselves without suicidal intent. They told me that self-injury helped them release their unbearable emotional pain from guilt and condemnation.
Memories of past experiences torment them day and night. They pray and cry out to God, but there is no relief. Some end up inflicting pain on their own body while others look to drinking and doing drugs.
Many people are sick today because of the guilt and condemnation. Condemnation kills. People judge themselves for their failures, accept condemnation from others and even think that God is ready to condemn them to a life of sickness. Hosea 4:6 talks how God’s people “are destroyed from lack of knowledge…”
The good news is God sent His son into this world! John 3:16-17 says” For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son to condemn the world but to save it through Him.
Condemnation is Not From God
Romans 8:1 says “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Conviction is from God, but condemnation is from the enemy. 2nd Corinthians 2:11 “lest Satan should take advantage of us for we are not ignorant of his schemes.”
Satan’s strategy is to introduce his thoughts and ideas into your mind and deceive you into believing they are yours. 1 Chronicles 21:1 talks about how Satan moved King David to take a census of Israel, an act forbidden by God. It was Satan’s idea, and David moved on it.
Since the enemy’s primary weapon is a lie, your defense against him is the truth. The devil’s lie can’t withstand the truth any more than the darkness of night can withstand the light of the rising sun. When you expose Satan’s lie with God’s truth, his power is broken. In John 8:32 Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
If you are a believer in Jesus Christ and are caught up in this trap of guilt, shame, and condemnation, you need to pull down these strongholds through God’s Word and prayer. To win the battle of your mind, you must let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts and let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you. (Colossians 3:15-16)
Are you ready to take the first steps towards freedom? Declare this out loud:
Lord, I repent of agreeing with the lies of the devil that I am an evil person and that I am unworthy to come to your presence. Lord, I repent for not believing your promises of forgiveness and your love for me. I renounce all the lies of guilt, shame, and condemnation of the sins of the past. I break all soul ties and generational curses that would bind me in any way to the past guilt, shame, and condemnation. Lord, I receive your forgiveness from my past sins in Jesus’ name. Amen.
