Do you know what spirit God made a priority to identify first so His children could walk out of bondage and be free?
The devil knows!
Here are two clues:
- It’s a spirit that keeps you recycling the past like a broken record.
- Just a little root of this spirit can corrupt your whole soul.
The answer is found in Exodus 15:22-25 (NIV):
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days, they traveled in the desert without finding water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah. ) So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.
Have you figured it out yet?
God led the Israelites to stop first at Marah, the place of bitter water. He sweetened the water for them and it was a prophetic sign that a spirit of bitterness had to go.
The Israelites had more than four hundred years of slavery running through their bloodlines. Their deliverance was miraculous, but there were soul issues that still had to be dealt with.
They needed to renew their minds!
I hear this frequently when clients come in for deliverance. They are in awe of the tangible presence of God during their session. They walk out of our offices free from torment. Many even say they feel like the weight of the world was lifted off their shoulders.
I think the Israelites thought that too! They walked out of bondage with the gold and silver of Egypt.
After deliverance, however, there is a war over who you are going to listen to.
My clients frequently complain that they still have some of the same thoughts after deliverance as they did before.
I tell them, “God didn’t wave a magic wand and erase all your memories; he used an earthen vessel to co-labor with him to get you out of bondage.”
Just like the Israelites in the wilderness there is a walking out of that slave mentality that takes your free will agreement to change your focus of meditation.
The devil knows how to throw thoughts at you after deliverance to get you back in Egypt. He’s had a lot of years of practice. But God is greater and his path is not a super highway that will get you instantly to your destination, it’s a narrow road that few will find that takes faith.
Bitterness, however, if allowed to take root is deadly to your sustained freedom!
God dealt with it in the wilderness for 40 years and only two out of 2-million made it into the Promised Land.
Those are not good betting odds!
Those slaves were free, but they still had a beaten, rejected, bitter slave mentality.
It is up to you.
Bitterness begins with an old debt of unforgiveness. There is something that you want to be paid first, so you can let it go.
Those debts speak loudly, “If only they realized what they did, I don’t even need an apology, just some understanding.”
What follows the unpaid debt of unforgiveness is judgment. It causes you to speak word curses over others that sound like this: “They will never change; they will just go on treating everyone just like they treated me. They are mean, hateful, and uncaring.”
A bitter slave mentality is coming out of your mouth and giving the devil a stronghold to torment you!
Are you ready to be free?
Begin by writing down the names of the people who have come into your mind while you were reading this blog. Then speak the following proclamations out loud.
Proclamations to Break Free From Bitterness
-
“Lord, I also want to confess that I have not loved, but have resented certain people and have unforgiveness in my heart. Understanding that forgiveness is a decision and not based upon my emotions, I choose to forgive with my free will and release all judgments against (speak out loud those you have judged and have spoken bitterly about). Now I forgive and accept myself, in the Name of Jesus.”
-
”In the name of Jesus, I confess that I have murmured and complained and spoken word curses over myself and others. I break the power of these word curses specifically (declare the curses you have spoken over others). I also break any unknown curses and those I have spoken over myself. I cancel the assignment of every spirit of bitterness that has come upon me from these curses and declare that you have no hold over me, in Jesus name!”
This is a good starting place to break the hold of bitterness. Now I want to challenge you: Pray about fasting what is coming out of your mouth, not what you are putting in it. Consecrate a 21-day fast from speaking negatively. It’s not as easy as it sounds. God will convict you when you fall, you only need to repent and keep on fasting. Anything you can do for 21-days is going to be a life changer.
If you have tried to drop your old bitter slave baggage, and cannot do this alone, we are only a phone call away.
