The children are coming! The children are coming! I am hearing from deliverance counselors around the country that there is an increase in the awareness that children need deliverance too. The enemy is no respecter of age and the attacks on our youth are not hard to see. What follows is an account of a very successful childrens deliverance session.
I’ve recently seen children ten and under on a whole regimen of psychotropic medications usually reserved for adults. The parents bring their children in and tell me, “We have tried everything the world offers medically, we know God can do a better job.”
A recent situation involved a ten year old girl who had been adopted from a foreign country. Because of the lengthy adoption process, the parents were not sure of how many families their daughter had been in or what the conditions of her birth were. They knew only that she had been born to a single woman who was struggling in poverty and overwhelmed in a culture of religion mixed with witchcraft.
As this child grew up in her new environment, the level of torment increased. Her mood swings were uncontrollable. Her anger turned to rage. She was threatening family members with violence. From the time she started school, she had to be carried into the classroom daily, kicking and screaming. Her mother feared the day she could no longer carry her.
The whole family flew in from out of state for a long weekend of vacation and deliverance. Before they arrived I was able to meet the parents and interview them on Skype. I sent them a journaling guideline to help them begin targeting certain areas appropriate to deliverance issues.
This family was familiar with deliverance and had gone through our online “Deliverance Ministry: Plain & Simple” video seminar before they arrived. We believe it is important for parents to have gone through deliverance themselves first either with us or a similar ministry. Understanding the warfare involved with deliverance and the discipline it will take to keep the child free from torment is key.
We also suggest that parents read the book, “The Little Skunk” by Sue Banks to their child before deliverance. This book has a simple way of explaining deliverance to the child in terms they understand. Handled correctly, children are not afraid of deliverance. They know something is not right and they want to be free.
This little girl had an amazing deliverance session that was completed in less than thirty minutes. There was no yelling or screaming; simply softly calling the spirits out. We have found that volume is not necessary in deliverance. It is the name of Jesus Christ and his blood that sets the captives free!
As we prayed the final blessing over this child to release the fruit of the Holy Spirit, I explained to her that her deliverance was like a gardening process. We weeded out all the bad things that were causing her torment and we planted good seeds. But just like every garden, the fruit doesn’t just show up the next day. I explained to her that it takes watering with the word of God and tending to it to keep the bad things out. I told her in about thirty days she would see the first fruits of this deliverance.
Two days later however, while she was playing in the Gulf of Mexico here on Clearwater beach, she yelled out to her mother, “Mommy! Miss Phyllis was wrong! She said it would take thirty days for me to see fruit but it’s only been two and I’m not afraid of the water anymore. I am having fun!”
I also received a glowing report from her mother a few weeks later as school started. She told me, in tears, that her daughter was excited about opening day and she ran in laughing with her sister.
Here is a brief comment from this grateful mother:
“I am truly over flowing – opportunity after opportunity to share the miracle of God’s hand on my daughters life!! One by one the chains have been broken! Fear after fear gone! Every day fruit is developing!! A transformation season!! I can hardly wait to see what is next!”
Children are much easier to pray deliverance for than adults. They have that child like faith and the roots of demonic torment are still easy to see. We were blessed to be a part of this wonderful move of God and our passion is to see more of God’s people trained up in ministering to these little ones.
