Teenagers! Who among us has parented teenagers and ever said it was easy? I want to meet those parents! As a mother of two daughters only a year apart in age, there was a season where the Holy Spirit was working overtime in order to show me the posters, clothes, and various items that allowed tormenting spirits into our home.
Recently one of my younger clients asked me to share with her about possible entry points that allowed demons into her room. She was concerned because of the night tormenting spirits that were still bothering her. I began to share with her the following story:
When my daughter graduated, we planned a day at the mall with lunch and shopping! From my perspective it was a win/win “quality time” day with the some parental oversight to the purchases. However, it didn’t quite go as planned. After a lovely day together, that night I had a tormenting nightmare that lasted all night. This nightmare, although interrupted with fervent prayer on my part, would resume right where it stopped when I fell back asleep. I woke up perplexed the next morning since nightmares like that were a thing of the past (deliverance and specific warfare prayers had cleaned all that up in my life).
As soon as the sun rose and my feet hit the floor, I prayed and again asked the Lord to show me what allowed this torment into my night. It was then I heard the Holy Spirit say, “It tormented you because you bought it.” Surprised, I asked, “What did I buy?” That’s when I heard very clearly that a T-shirt was slipped into the shopping spree that I did not see.
With that I marched right into my daughters room and said, “Did you purchase a T-shirt that I would not of approved of yesterday?” With that she reached into her shopping bag and pulled it out. Right there on the front of the t-shirt was the girl, whom I will not describe, that had appeared prevalently in my nightmare. I took the shirt to an offsite dumpster.
This was not the only incident of this nature as the girls were given posters many times as gifts that would set any parents teeth on edge. Items that are posted on the walls of your home become part of your home. In exchange for throwing these gifts out, replacements were often offered.
As a working parent during many of those years, I am quite sure we missed a lot but the things we needed to see the Holy Spirit revealed. I did not make it a practice to screen their purchases, but when the atmosphere in our home would suddenly shift, questions were asked.

The assault against this generation is intense. As parents it is our responsibility to teach and train our children in warfare to keep them aware of the enemy’s tactics in advance. I often teach this age group in two counseling sessions, how the doors could have gotten open in their lives and how to close them. It’s amazing how receptive they are, when someone other than a parent is teaching.
