Post-Deliverance Deliverance – Really?

God delivers his people  (sets them free from demonic spirits) in at least three different ways:

1. He does it sovereignly without human intervention,
2. He uses his people to drive out demons (Mark 16:17) and
3. People drive demons out of themselves!

We have heard about and seen all three methods during our years of counseling and deliverance ministry and the first two methods are fairly common. We know of many people, who at the time of salvation or some subsequent time, become aware of the fact that “something” has left them even if they did not have the theology to understand what it was!An area of focus for our ministry is in the realm of being used by God to drive or call spirits out of others. That process is fairly straightforward and is teachable to others which is why our Counseling Academy has an online program to teach motivated students in this area. Graduates can join our ministry team or start their own deliverance ministry.

The notion of people casting spirits out of themselves is new for some but can be effective. Many who find our ministry have been trying in many cases for years to call out and be delivered from spirits but to little or no avail. Why hasn’t this been effective for them?

There are several potential reasons, including they haven’t identified the right spirit, they haven’t stirred up their faith or, more likely, there is a legal right still for that spirit to be “in their house” (Matthew 12:43-44).

Demons May Leave After the Session

One phenomenon that we hear about from time to time is of people who leave our office or seminar after deliverance ministry and report that one or more days (up to a few weeks) later they experience a release in their soul that they attest is a spirit leaving them!

It could also just be a realization of deliverance previously obtained because there is an element of “walking out deliverance” and changing habits that we teach. However, we have heard enough of these (unsolicited) encounters from people to know that it is valid for some.

Another scenario we have seen is when an individual who has been through deliverance with us purposes to finish the job on their own! One memorable occurrence was of a man who called our office excitedly to tell me that while driving one day he had a power encounter with the demonic realm. He had receive a measure of deliverance during the session and had learned from our teachings on the demonic realm.

One day, while driving, he began to call out the spirit that he knew was still there, or had come back upon him. He had begun doing that while driving and started to feel nauseous so he pulled over to the side of the road. He continued to cry out to the Lord and commanded that devil to come out of him! He said he suddenly began alternately yelling and sobbing and then, in an instant, he told me that he knew he was set free!

We always know that’s God that does the work and we give Him all the glory when the captves are set free. It’s a huge blessing for us to see God confirm His word and his power in people’s lives in this way when they KNOW that He has set them free! Hallelujah!

God’s ways are higher than our ways and we don’t always understand His methods or timing. We must know and purpose to believe however that He wants people free from demonic spirits, He did not put them upon us and that we have power and authority over them to drive them out!
